No One Achieves Greatness Alone

team at the peak of a mountain

Take a look at all of your heroes and idols. Each of them has a team of trainers, role models, and mentors that they respect and look up to on their team, pushing them to be their very best. We are a direct reflection of our idols, peer groups, and team. If your coaching team has unfocused, unsupportive members, who do not give you the direction or support you need, you will unconsciously take on the same attitude. With this subliminal attitude infecting your mind, you’ll get nowhere in your martial arts career.

It would help if you believe in yourself, be motivated to train, and become the best you can be inside and outside the dojo. Choose your idols, role models, and coaching team members with care. You are creating a future you, and you need the support to make it a reality. We take on the attitudes of those we look up to, respect, and associate. As social humans, everyone on your coaching team should be positive and supportive, driving you to achieve your goal.

Each member should push you to your limits beyond what you thought possible. The team gives you strength and encouragement when you feel like giving up.

“If you can tell me who your heroes are, I can tell you how you’re going to turn out in life.” – Warren Buffett

This quote speaks to who we choose to be on our team or as our circle of friends. We take on the attitudes and beliefs of our peers and heroes. Their behavior acts as a framework to make decisions and as motivation. This mental component highlights the importance of having focused, positive, and supportive people around us. To remain on target, rid ourselves of anyone who does otherwise. Champions are made up by a coaching team or peer group who contribute their collective knowledge and effort to attain a definite goal or purpose.

Your coaching team must contribute to achieving your goal so that you can be a Champion. Choose to associate with people who share common goals and have a strong desire to contribute to the overall effort. Trial and error is part of the process. Not everyone turns out to be the best fit. Some may be a good fit in the beginning, but you have outgrown them and move on. Sort out what strengths and weaknesses you have when it comes to your training. Look for individuals to help you eliminate your defects, build your strengths, and develop extraordinary fundamentals.
