Picture your child’s school hallway, lockers along the walls, and many doors leading to cramped classrooms. There’s your child with a big backpack walking to their class. Bam! A bigger kid and his friends slam into your child. They’re pushing your child into the lockers, and your child falls to the floor. The gang of bullies laugh at your child, yell verbal taunts, and walk off victorious in their abuse. Your child rubs their shoulder, picks up their books, maybe wipes a tear off the cheek, and continues their walk to class.
We want our children to be safe at school. How do they act when we’re not around? Does anyone help them in their time of need? Kempo Karate can teach your child how to be safe. But how? Read on, my friend.
Kempo Karate teaches children how to focus. When you focus, you can pick up danger coming from within the crowd. Focus allows you to see alternate paths that will avoid confrontation. Focus also will enable you to remain calm during tense situations. Our drills and technique training develop these traits. You need to respond to commands with lightning reflexes. It would help if you adapted to what your fellow student is doing to apply the appropriate counter-attack. You learn situational awareness of your surroundings.
Kempo Karate teaches children self-control. At a young age, it isn’t easy to control your growing body. With self-control, you can move out of the way fast. You can stand tall in defiance of intimidation or threats. You won’t start a fight but are willing to end it. Kempo teaches precise movements that demand control over the arms, legs, and body. The techniques are dynamic and require mental coordination to accomplish. You learn to control your body.
Kempo Karate teaches children physical skills. These skills mean we teach you how to block, strike, and move. In other words, how to physically defend yourself against an attack. If you get knocked down, you know how to protect yourself from the ground and how to get up quickly. Kempo Karate also teaches you how to punch with power and speed. Our students practice punching heavy-bags and body bags to develop striking ability and proper form.
Kempo Karate teaches children to be safe. They are safe when they feel safe, resulting from confidence, courage, and good self-esteem. These traits come from Kempo Karate training through learning fighting skills, techniques and gaining confirmation of those abilities through belt ranks. When children know they can defend themselves against anyone of any size, they go through life with assertiveness and confidence.
