Reflections on One Year of Blogging

Today marks one whole year since I began writing this blog—a milestone in and of itself. When I started last year, I wasn’t sure I could keep up the momentum of posting a few times each week. To give myself a head start, I prepared a stash of articles—some were updates from past issues of The Leopard Pause, while others had never been published before.

The first six months went smoothly, but then real life got in the way. There were even two full months—like last month—where I didn’t post at all. Oops. Still, I’d like to take a moment to review my goals and evaluate how I did.

Goals I Achieved

  • I’m still writing this blog. That alone is worth celebrating!
  • I turned many of my article ideas into finished pieces.
  • A few of my friends became regular readers. That support has meant a lot.

Goals I Missed

  • I wanted to post weekly, ideally every other day, excluding weekends. Close, but no cigar.
  • I hoped to stay active on various martial arts forums and blogs. Unfortunately, balancing that with teaching and parenting proved too much.
  • I intended to post more news updates and event coverage, but time was not on my side again.

Wild Hopes and Dreams

  • I dreamed this blog would become the heart of the independent Shaolin Kempo community. Maybe a little ambitious—but hey, if you’re going to work hard, dream big!
  • I fantasized about Hollywood (or even Bollywood—I’m open to it) discovering the blog and casting me in a movie. A bit silly, sure. But in some alternate universe, who knows?

What Actually Happened

  • I joined Twitter (@bagnas) but without a smartphone and a consistent habit, tweeting didn’t stick. Odd, considering how much I talk in person! (Update: Twitter is gone, and so is my account.)
  • I created a Facebook fan page. To my surprise, it attracted some fans I didn’t know. Maybe I’m secretly famous… or perhaps they just liked the logo.

Moving Forward

I’m still excited about continuing this blog and am always on the lookout for new ideas. If you have a topic you’d like me to explore, an article you’d like to share, or a guest post you’d like to contribute, let me know! I’m also open to featuring Kempo artwork and G-rated photos of martial artists.

Thanks for reading—and here’s to another year of writing, learning, and sharing.

See you next year!
